§ Mr. Nicholas BennettTo ask the Secretary of State for Scotland what estimate he has as to the number of shops trading on Sundays since the removal of restrictions on Sunday trading; and if he will make a statement on the effect on the Scottish economy.
§ Lord James Douglas-HamiltonIt would not be possible to make such an estimate since, with a minor exception relating to hairdressers and barbers, statutory restrictions on Sunday trading such as those set out in the Shops Act 1950 did not and do not apply in Scotland.
