Pollution Prevention

Mr. Malcolm Bruce

To ask the Secretary of State for the Environment (1) if he will give details of studies into pollution prevention conducted by his Department in each of the last five years;

(2) if he will list the amount spent by his Department for each year since 1979 on research into pollution prevention.

The figures for expenditure by the Department of the Environment on research on environmental protection, excluding countryside research, between 1979–80 and 1988–89 are as follows:
