Mr. Tim Smith

To ask the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry what specific financial, efficiency and quality of service targets he has approved for the National Weights and Measures Laboratory agency for the current year and for the longer term.

In May 1989, Lord Young, the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry, approved the corporate plan of the National Weights and Measures Laboratory executive agency. This plan, copies of which have been placed in the Library of the House, contains specific targets for the current year. Targets for the longer term will be approved by the Secretary of State in subsequent corporate plans.
