To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs how many British ambassadors are currently in service; and how many are(a) black, (b) Asian and (c) women.

Mr. Sainsbury

There are 123 ambassadors and high commissioners currently in service, including non-resident ambassadors and high commissioners. In addition, there are nine heads of delegation to international organisations currently in service who have the personal rank of ambassador.

Of these, five are women. None is black or Asian.
