§ Mr. FoulkesTo ask the Secretary of State for Social Security what is the total number of income support claimants who continue to receive transitional addition; and what proportion of these are pensioners.
§ Mrs. Gillian ShephardI regret that the information requested is not available. Based on the May 1988 annual statistical inquiry an estimated 570,000 income support claimants were receiving a transitional addition immediately after the April 1989 annual benefit uprating, of whom an estimated 255,000 were aged 60 or over.
