To ask the Chancellor of the Exchequer whether there have been any changes concerning the regulations covering the levying of value added tax upon share dealing in the London market.

The Value Added Tax (Finance, Health and Welfare) Order 1989 (SI 1989/2272) exempted from VAT with effect from 1 January 1990 the making of arrangements for or the underwriting of transactions in securities. The order implemented the requirements of article 1(1) of Council directive 89/465/EEC (OJ No. L226, 3.8.89, p.21).
