§ Sir Geoffrey FinsbergTo ask the Lord President of the Council what are the regulations governing the use of radio pagers and other bleeping machines within the precincts; and what steps he is taking to prevent their use in areas used by other hon. Members.
§ Sir Geoffrey Howe[holding answer 20 February 1990]: The use of radio pagers by right hon. and hon. Members is a personal matter and no regulations exist governing their use within the precincts of the House. I am aware that such devices can cause annoyance and I have asked the Serjeant at Arms to remind Members that pagers should be switched off while they are present in the Chamber or in Committees of the House.
