To ask the Secretary of State for Health how many patients are on the average general practitioner's list at present; and what was the comparable figure in 1979.

At 1 October 1988 (the latest year for which figures are available) the average list size in England was 1,999 compared to 2,286 at 1 October 1979—a decrease of about 12.5 per cent.
