To ask the Secretary of State for Education and Science if he will list the number, and the relevant percentages, of young people aged 16 and 17 years who are currently in full-time education.

Estimates of numbers and percentages of the population of 16 and 17-year-olds in full-time education in England in 1988–89 are as follows:

To ask the Secretary of State for Education and Science how many local education authorities in their submissions to him of funding schemes for further education have named 1 April 1991 as the date for delegation of budgets; how many of these authorities have had this date changed by him to 1 April 1990; if he will list the local education authorities in both categories; and under what powers he imposed these changes.

  • Rotherham
  • Havering
  • Sunderland
  • Ealing
  • Hillingdon
  • Merton
  • Bexley
  • Cleveland
  • Doncaster
  • Kingston
  • Barnsley
  • Rochdale
  • St. Helens
  • Sutton
  • Barnet
  • Waltham Forest
  • Hertfordshire

Using powers under section 140 of the Education Reform Act 1988 my right hon. Friend has to date modified the schemes of the following local education authorities to introduce delegation from 1 April 1990:

  • Cleveland
  • Doncaster
  • Havering
  • Kingston
