HC Deb 19 February 1990 vol 167 cc547-8W
Mr. Chris Smith

To ask the Secretary of State for Health if he will make it his policy that any consideration he gives to applications for grant funding from other organisations providing support, care, counselling and education to people with HIV or AIDS will not prejudice his Department's continuing support for the work of the Terrence Higgins Trust.

Mrs. Virginia Bottomley

The Department awarded the Terrence Higgins Trust a grant of £450,000 for the financial year 1989–90 towards the administrative costs of its health education, drugs education, counselling support and buddy and helper cell programmes. We have agreed in principle to continue grant aid up to a maximum of £450,000 for 1990–91. In determining the final level of grant for the coming financial year, our primary consideration will be the trust's record of achievement in the current year.
