To ask the Secretary of State for Scotland whether he will introduce statutory protection for pine martens.

[holding answer 8 February 1990]: The pine marten (Martes martes) was added to schedule 5 of the Wildlife and Countryside Act 1981 under the Variation of Schedules Order 1988. It is an offence to intentionally kill, injure or take any wild animal included in the schedule.
