To ask the Secretary of State for Defence what is the projected cost of the transfer of the United States air force 401st wing from Spain to Italy; and what part of the cost is projected as falling to(a) Britain, (b) the United States of America and (c) other NATO allies.

The provisional assessment of the total cost is £424 million. Of this £37 million would fall to be met by the United Kingdom, £198 million by the United States of America, and £189 million by other NATO nations.
