To ask the Secretary of State for Scotland if he will publish a table showing the number of employees in service industries in Scotland in June 1979 and at present, broken down into separate totals for men, women, full-time employees, part-time employees and those on Government training schemes.
§ Mr. Rifkind
The table gives the number of employees in employment for June 1979 and September 1989, the latest available date. Figures are given separately for all men and for women working full time and part time. Information on the number of men working part time is available only for years for which there is a census of employment. Estimates of employees in employment include those with a contract of employment who are on Government work-related training schemes. There is no separate information available on the number of employees in Scotland in the service industries who are also on Government work-related training schemes.
