HC Deb 07 February 1990 vol 166 c651W
Mr. John Carlisle

To ask the Secretary of State for Transport on what evidence and information he based his decision to decline the provision of a footbridge over the newly constructed A6 Barton-le-Clay bypass.

Mr. Atkins

The joint decision of the Secretaries of State for the Environment and Transport was based on evidence given at the public inquiries about forecast traffic flows, known pedestrian-cyclist movements and the estimated cost of a footbridge.

Mr. John Carlisle

To ask the Secretary of State for Transport what representations he has received regarding the provision of a footbridge over the newly constructed A6 Barton-le-Clay bypass.

Mr. Atkins

Requests that a bridge be provided have been received from my hon. Friend, Barton-le-Clay parish council, South Bedfordshire district council and a small number of private individuals.

Mr. John Carlisle

To ask the Secretary of State for Transport whether he will reconsider his decision to refuse the provision of a footbridge over the newly constructed A6 Barton-le-Clay bypass.

Mr. Atkins

I have undertaken to review the position once the bypass is open to traffic.
