Mr. Frank Field

To ask the Secretary of State for Social Security how many claims or requests for review of disablement benefit are held up at his Birkenhead offices awaiting guidance on Cl/156/88.

A total of 1,069 new claims and 832 review applications have been received to date by the two social security offices serving the Birkenhead area following the decision of the commissioners Cl/156/88. These are now being processed.

To ask the Secretary of State for Social Security on what date the Commissioners' decision Cl/ 156/ 88 concerning vibration white finger claims was issued.

Commissioners' decision Cl/156/88 was issued on 1 September 1989.

To ask the Secretary of State for Social Security when his offices in the north-western region will start to take Cl/156/88 into account in making their decisions.

Claims affected by and taking account of commissioners' decision Cl/156/88 began to be processed from 19 January 1990 in all local offices.
