Friend the Secretary of State for Energy attended the meeting of the Council of Energy Ministers on 29 October, at which the Commission's communication on specific actions for vigorous energy efficiency was introduced, and welcomed the initiative. The proposal for a Council decision in support of the SAVE programme represents a sensible approach to the rationalisation of the European Community's work on energy efficiency, and we are working to ensure it results in effective and properly co-ordinated measures in those areas where they are appropriate.
