§ Mr. Barry JonesTo ask the Secretary of State for Social Security what was the total number of people in Wales in the last available year claiming statutory sick pay at(a) the lower rate and (b) the higher rate; and if he will make a statement.
§ Mr. ScottIn 1988–89, some 5.6 million people in the United Kingdom received statutory sick pay. It is estimated that at that time about 90 per cent. would have received the higher rate. Information is not collected in a form which would enable separate figures to be given for Wales.
