§ Mr. HurdNow that the overwhelming majority of the British community has been evacuated from Kuwait we have decided to withdraw our remaining embassy staff. We 483W have asked them to prepare to leave within the next week. Thereafter we shall no longer be able to provide assistance to any remaining British nationals. We therefore strongly urge them to leave Kuwait.
We continue to recognise the legitimate Government of Kuwait, who have been informed of our decision to withdraw the embassy staff. We utterly reject Iraq's illegal occupation and annexation of Kuwait.
