To ask the Chancellor of the Exchequer what response he has made to the report of the EC committee of central bank governors concerning a European central bank.

As the hon. Member knows, the work of the central bank governors was to establish what the arrangements might be if Governments decide that there should be such a bank. The Governor of the Bank of England has placed clearly on record the fundamental 207W reservations of the United Kingdom authorities—that is, the Government and the bank—about a single currency and a single monetary authority.
