HC Deb 25 April 1990 vol 171 c262W
Ms. Walley

To ask the Secretary of State for the Environment what advice and assistance has been made available to local authorities for the purposes of encouraging the use of peat alternatives in horticulture.

Mr. Curry

I have been asked to reply to this question.

My Ministry has undertaken a considerable amount of work on alternatives to the use of peat in horticulture. The Agricultural Development Advisory Service is currently advising a number of local authorities on the management of amenity plant production, including the development and use of peat substitutes.
