§ Mr. Heathcoat-AmoryThe National Rivers Authority is the competent authority in England and Wales for the purposes of implementing the EC bathing waters directive (76/160/EEC). The Directive contains details of the standards to be attained at identified bathing waters and the arrangements for monitoring water quality. I have no plans to issue further implementation advice to the National Rivers Authority.
§ Mrs. Ann TaylorTo ask the Secretary of State for the Environment (1) what is the reason for excluding monitoring for salmonella and enteroviruses from the result of the bathing water survey which is announced to Parliament;
(2) if he will give figures for the number of designated beaches which comply with the EC bathing water directive if the parameters for salmonella and enteroviruses are taken into account.
