HC Deb 18 April 1990 vol 170 c857W
Mr. Frank Cook

To ask the Chancellor of the Exchequer what aspects of the Brady plan to assist indebted Third world countries he envisages being implemented in the United Kingdom.

Mr. Ryder

The Government support the strengthening of the debt strategy, agreed at the 1989 spring meetings of the IMF—IBRD, to allow limited use of fund and bank resources to support voluntary agreements between debtors and banks on commercial debt relief. The extent to which UK banks participate in these arrangements is a matter for their commercial judgment.

Mr. Cohen

To ask the Chancellor of the Exchequer when he last met the Governor of the Bank of England to discuss Third world debt.

Mr. Ryder

My Right hon. Friend the Chancellor regularly meets the Government of the Bank of England. The discussions cover many subjects.
