To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs what support the United Kingdom has given or offered towards the establishment by the United Nations of a global resource information database.

Mr. Sainsbury

The global resource information database is a powerful computer-based system designed to present a variety of natural resources information in a way that planners can easily use. It is based in Switzerland and funded by the United Nations environmental programme (UNEP). Britain has not only supported UNEP from its inception under the usual UN budgetary formula, but this year made a substantial voluntary donation which more than doubled our contribution to £3 million.
