HC Deb 17 October 1989 vol 158 cc83-4W
15. Mr. Alex Carlile

To ask the Secretary of State for Education and Science if he will make a further statement on primary school teacher shortages.

Mr. Alan Howarth

In general, across the country as a whole, there are sufficient primary school teachers and few problems of shortages. However, there are problems in some areas, particularly in inner London. Recruitment to primary initial teacher training continues to be buoyant, and there should be sufficient teachers overall to meet demand in the future.
