HL Deb 09 October 1989 vol 511 c133WA
Lord Kennet

asked Her Majesty's Government:

Why they decided not to discuss with interested parties the changes recently announced to the Nature Conservancy Council and the Countryside Commission.

The Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State, Department of the Environment (Lord Hesketh)

The Government already had sufficient information at their disposal to make a judgment about the need to reorganise the work of the Nature Conservancy Council and the two Countryside Commissions along the lines of the detailed statement which I made to your Lordships on llth July (Official Report, Cols. 403–404). Discussions are now taking place with the bodies concerned about the best way in which these proposals can be carried forward. There will be a full opportunity to debate them in both Houses when the Government submit legislative proposals in due course.
