HC Deb 30 November 1989 vol 162 c337W
Mr. Murphy

To ask the Secretary of State for Wales (1) how many people are now classified as homeless in Wales; and what steps he is taking to reduce that figure;

(2) if he will make a statement on homelessness legislation in Wales;

(3) what plans he has to deal with the homeless in Wales.

Mr. Grist

The normal measure of statutory homelessness is given by cases accepted by local authorities under part III of the Housing Act 1985. The number of persons in households accepted during the second quarter of 1989 (April to June) was 4,832. The Department is in touch with a wide range of organisations concerned with homelessness and a statement will be made soon.
