§ Mr. Ian LangMy right hon. and learned Friend has received representations that the proposed date of 1 April 1990 for appointing further education college councils will leave insufficient time for education authorities to carry out full consultations on the appointment of employer representatives. In the light of these representations, he intends to make a direction under the Act amending the date to 1 August 1990. College council regulations will be made early in 1990 once we have had time to consider comments on our proposals in the consultative paper the "College Control Principle".
