To ask the Secretary of State for Wales whether officials in the highways section of his Department, or of the Gwynedd county council, have drawn up alternative outline routes for a bypass for Porthmadog for the A487; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Wyn Roberts

As indicated in "Roads in Wales —Progress and Plans for the 1990s", the A487 between Maentwrog and Caernarfon is the subject of a study. The consultant's report on the Porthmadog section will identify possible routes for a bypass.
