HC Deb 24 November 1989 vol 162 c33W
Mr. Baldry

To ask the Minister for the Arts whether there has been any change in the forecast of liabilities under the Government indemnity scheme.

Mr. Luce

The forecast total liability in 1989–90 for indemnities under section 16 (2) of the National Heritage Act 1980 was £350 million, to cover objects on loan to non-national museums, galleries and other institutions in the United Kingdom, as shown in paragraph 6(c) of the introduction to the estimate class XIII, vote 1. The Government will now be giving further indemnities in respect of loans to non-national institutions which will increase the total outstanding liability for the period from 25 November 1989 to 30 June 1990 to £600 million.
