To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department if he will introduce legislation to repeal the Sunday Observance Act 1780.

No. We believe that the policy of successive Governments to leave the initiative with private Members should be maintained.

To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department whether he intends to make any provision to ensure that the Sunday Observance Act 1780 is enforced on 31 December 1989; and if he will make a statement.

To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department if he will issue guidelines to local authorities on the enforcement of the Sunday Observance Act 1780 in time for consideration of the issue of relevant licences for Sunday 31 December 1989; and if he will make a statement.

It is for local authorities to determine whether or not to grant entertainment licences taking into account the provisions of the Sunday Observance Act 1780.
