To ask the Secretary of State for Education and Science when he expects to conclude consideration of the criteria for conferring polytechnic status upon colleges of higher education.

My right hon. Friend has asked for views by the end of November on the criteria proposed by the PCFC for designating additional polytechnics. He will wish to consider these views carefully before announcing his final decisions.
