§ Mr. KirkwoodTo ask the Secretary of State for Defence (1) how many Harrier GR7 aircraft are being brought into service in the next five years; how many aircrews will be trained to fly at low level at night; and how many night-hours each aircrew will be required to fly each year to maintain the required RAF levels of proficiency;
(2) how many hours at low flying at night have been undertaken in each of the past five years; and what level of increase is anticipated after the Harrier GR7 aircraft is brought into service;
(3) how many hours of low flying at night were planned to occur in West Germany prior to the West German decision to ban low flying training at night;
(4) if he will list in the Official Report the areas of the United Kingdom that will be used to train air crews engaged in low level night-time flying exercises in Harrier GR7 aircraft;
(5) whether the specifications of the Harrier GR7 aircraft requires low level night time training exercises to be undertaken in the area of the Spadeadam Royal Air Force base.
