To ask the Secretary of State for Transport whether the Government have any plans to provide for the operation of high speed rail freight services from the northern regions by-passing London into mainland Europe.

This is a matter for British Rail, which will shortly be setting out its proposals in the plan that it is publishing in compliance with section 40 of the Channel Tunnel Act 1987.
