To ask the Secretary of State for Health what proportion of acute hospital in-patients are over the age of 70 years.

In the year ending March 1988, the latest year for which information is available centrally, 24 per cent, of acute patients treated were aged 65 years and over and 12 per cent, were 75 years and over.
