To ask the Secretary of State for Energy whether he will give the latest figures for productivity for the north-east coal field; and if he will give those for 1985.

Productivity in the north-east coalfield rose from 2.23 tonnes per man shift in 1985–86 to 3–82 tonnes in 1988–89.
