Mr. Haselhurst

To ask the Secretary of State for Health what are the latest comparative figures on health spending per capita and as a proportion of gross domestic product for the United Kingdom and its European Community partners; and what is the effect on these figures of the distinction between public and private funding.

Mr. Freeman

The tables show public, private and total expenditure on health per capita and as a percentage of GDP for the United Kingdom and its European Community partners in 1986, the latest year for which comparative figures are available for most of the countries.

The source of these figures is the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development.
