Mr. Hardy

To ask the Secretary of State for Employment if he will give the numbers of full-time workers in the coal, steel, shipbuilding, engineering and building industries in 1979 and at the latest date for which figures are available.

Comparable estimates of full-time employment are not available for all of the industries and dates specified. The available information is as follows:

percentage of all employees, by age group, for each of the standard regions and Wales, in each of the years 1983 to 1988.
