HL Deb 23 May 1989 vol 508 c390WA
Lord Stallard

asked Her Majesty's Government:

What were the numbers of persons with diagnosis of schizophrenic psychosis discharged from mental illness hospitals and units in (a) under 1 month, (b) under 3 months, and (c) under 6 months, and what percentage these numbers represented of the total numbers discharged in (a) England, (b) Scotland, and (c) Northern Ireland in 1984,1985, 1986 and 1987.

Lord Henley

The tables show the number of discharges, excluding deaths, with a primary diagnosis of schizophrenia from National Health Service mental illness hospitals and units, for the latest three years for which comparable information is available. The figures are for discharges, not individual patients, and the same patient may be discharged more than once during the year. The number of discharges with a diagnosis of schizophrenia during the year is expressed as a percentage of the total number of discharges in the same year, for the same duration of stay.
