HC Deb 15 May 1989 vol 153 c97W
Mr. Cran

To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department what he treats as legitimate uses to which electronic surveillance devices may be put.

Mr. Hurd

The Younger report on privacy reported on the widely accepted view that there was a vast range of unobjectionable uses for technical surveillance devices. Examples include their use by shops and other enterprises in order to prevent crime.
