HL Deb 11 May 1989 vol 507 c859WA
Lord Vernon

asked Her Majesty's Government:

Whether they intend to widen the short stretch of two-lane carriageways of the M.40 in the region of Stokenchurch to three lanes prior to the extension to Birmingham and, if so, when work will commence.

The Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State, Department of Transport (Lord Brabazon of Tara)

Yes. The widening of the M.40 past Stokenchurch is planned to start in spring 1990 and take up to two years to complete.

Construction of parts of the Birmingham extension is already under way. Work on the last section, from Waterstock to Wendlebury, should begin later this year. Completion will depend upon the successful contractor's programme.
