To ask the Secretary of State for Employment what was the cost of financing the National Dock Labour Board sports activities in 1987–88; and how much of this was financed through the employers' levy.

A total of £59,292 in 1987, all financed through the board's management levy on employers.

[holding answer 3 May 1989]: The board's own management levy was £4,433,636. Levy received on behalf of the national voluntary severance scheme, administered by the board, was £2,047,046.
