HC Deb 04 May 1989 vol 152 cc251-2W
Mr. Ron Davies

To ask the Secretary of State for the Environment what information he has about the European distribution of the edible doormouse, or glis glis.

Mrs. Virginia Bottomley

I am advised by the Nature Conservancy Council that the edible doormouse, glis glis, has a wide-ranging distribution in central and southern Europe, including northern Spain, France, Germany, Belgium, Luxembourg, Italy and Greece. The species was introduced into the United Kingdom in 1902 and is now found in the counties of Bedfordshire, Berkshire, Buckinghamshire and Hertfordshire.
