§ Ms. ShortTo ask the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland whether staff at the Mater hospital are required to agree to work within Roman Catholic medical ethics.
§ Mr. NeedhamStaff at the Mater hospital are employed on the same terms and conditions of service as other 65W similar grades of staff in the health and personal social services in Northern Ireland. However, some senior medical staff employed at the hospital have an additional clause in their contract which requires them to have regard to the need to maintain the character and associations of the hospital which are such as to link it with the Roman Catholic faith.
