To ask the Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster which Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development countries are running a smaller trade deficit as a percentage of gross domestic product than the United Kingdom.

OECD estimates for 1988 suggest that 12 countries ran deficits on their visible trade. In relation to their GDP, the following countries' deficits were smaller than that of the United Kingdom.

Italy, France, Norway, Switzerland, the United States, Austria and Iceland.
