§ Mr. Greg KnightTo ask the Secretary of State for Transport why temporary traffic lights were in operation on Saturday 4 March and Monday 6 March on the island at junction 25 of the M1 motorway.
§ Mr. Peter BottomleyThe temporary traffic signals were installed to cater for increased traffic flow resulting from the temporary closure of the southbound exit slip road at M1 junction 28 for reconstruction works from 4 to 10 March. The signals were installed to prevent queues forming back on to the M1 carriageway. At junction 25 the lights were in continuous operation from 4 to 6 March and then at peak periods only as agreed with the police.
