§ Mr. Barry JonesTo ask the Secretary of State for Wales (1) what was the number of applications for housing benefit for each year since 1979; and what was the number accepted for each district council;
(2) what was the value of housing benefit distributed in Wales for each year since 1979 at constant prices;
(3) what was the value of housing benefit distributed in Wales by district council for each year since 1979 at constant prices.
§ Mr. GristHousing benefit was introduced for some supplementary benefit claimants from November 1982 with full implemenation for all claimants following from April 1983. The information given in the following tables shows the payments and the numbers of recipients from 1983–84 onwards at 1987–88 prices. Figures for the numbers of rate rebates, rent rebates and rent allowances have been provided separately, as there is a significant overlap; most households getting assistance with rent will also be in receipt of a rate rebate. Data prior to 1983–84 are not held on a consistent basis. Information on the number of applications is not held centrally.
