§ Mr. FreemanThe Department grant aided the National Autistic Society by £10,000 a year for 1985–86, 1986–87, and 1987–88, and in 1987 made an additional special grant of £5,500. Since May 1987 the Department has spent over £60,000 on a descriptive study of the current education, treatment and handling of autistic children and adults.
