To ask the Secretary of State for Social Security what representations he has received seeking equalisation of state pension ages; and if he will make a statement.

We received a total of 363 representations between 10 February 1988 and 7 February 1989. The Government are fully committed to the principle of equal treatment for men and women. Equalisation of state pension age involves the consideration of a number of important issues, including long-term demographic and economic trends. Proposals for equalisation of pension age continue to be under consideration.
