HC Deb 12 June 1989 vol 154 c269W
Mr. Frank Field

To ask the Secretary of State for Education and Science how much was allotted for internal redecoration when approving the new St. Benedict's school in Birkenhead.

Mr. Butcher

The proposal to establish St. Benedict's school was approved by the Secretary of State on 2 April 1987. The total cost of the building project to extend and adapt the school premises is £1.8 million. A total of £1.4 million of this will be met by the governors, who will receive 85 per cent. grant from the Department on that expenditure. The local education authority intends to meet the remaining costs of approximately £400,000, including the cost of necessary internal redecoration, and this was taken into account in determining its prescribed capital expenditure allocation for 1989–90.
