To ask the Secretary of State for Defence how many children of service men are being educated in the private sector on Ministry of Defence grants; and how many of these children are being educated at Crookham Court school, Newbury, Berkshire.

As at March 1989, the latest date for which figures are available, there were some 22,400 children of service personnel for whom boarding school allowance was being claimed; this figure includes those attending state boarding schools. At Crookham Court school, there are at present 32 children of service parents.
